Introduction
Kiwifruit
We present here the “Bruno” kiwifruit as an example of a fruit overlooked for commercial growing – other than as rootstock for possibly less medicinal varieties of kiwifruit.
This 1991 study (link below) showed the considerable vitamin C content contained in the “Bruno” variety, compared to the “Hayward”, which was chosen as the variety worth commercialising at the time.
The “Bruno” kiwifruit was named after Bruno Just who was foreman in Hayward Wright’s Avondale nursery.
Photos here are of “Bruno” kiwifruit grown in the Heritage Food Crops Research Trust orchard.
